Alexandra May has been wowing the South African public since the age of 11 in a number of high profile theatre productions, dedicating her heart & soul to the arts at a very young age. She’s your favourite new teen pop star and we got to talk to her about her journey.

What is it like living out your dreams?

It is awesome! Should I pinch myself? I’ve wanted to become a recording artist since I was young, so to see and feel my dreams becoming a reality is literally a dream come true! I don’t want to take anything for granted I want to enjoy every moment!

Tell us more about your latest single, “Amazing“. What inspired it and what was the production process behind it?

Amazing is a fun, happy, vibey song that encourages you to know yourself and what you want in a person. The song is about meeting and knowing an #amazing person and telling them and the world how you feel about them.
Working on Amazing was a lot of fun. I fell more in love with the song as the production process took place. It completely represents me from the lyrics to the music behind it! I love the brass included in the production.

Tell us about your musical journey so far. You’ve been performing from such a young age. When did you realise that you wanted to be a musician?

I entered competitions and have been exposed to many genres and style of music. I’ve also done numerous theatre productions where I learned to keep energy on stage, not just for that show but for 100 shows.
I released I wanted to become a solo artist when I was about 14 or 15. I met a wise lady named SHY told me that I would need to decide what I loved best and what I wanted to do, and so that started me working on my music and finding my voice.

You’ve been able to achieve so much at such a young age. What advice would you give to young people trying to live out their dreams?

Don’t think reaching your dreams is not supposed to be easy, that’s what makes the journey a story worth telling. So the best advice I can give someone is to keep your head up, put a smile on your face, your eyes open for opportunities and never forget the ones who love and support you! My Dad has always said when desire and preparation are there, as the opportunity comes you are ready to JUMP!

What is your ultimate musical success?

I wish I could tell you. But I can’t. I will just keep working hard and doing my best to keep putting out music and performing. (Dare I say it – win a GRAMMY?!)
