We chatted to Native Young ahead of their Park Acoustics debut. Find out who Native Young would haunt if he was a ghost.

Hey guys, apart from making music, how do you spend your time?

Music is everything to me and quite honestly takes up all of my time. I find it hard not to be making music in some way. My other passion is extreme sports – so you can find me; surfing, hiking, cliff jumping, mountain biking or sand boarding when I take a tiny breath from making music. I also like to dance naked in front of the mirror on a daily basis! ;)

Who are your local and/or international musical inspirations?

International inspirations would be artists like; Bjork, Radiohead, Michael Jackson and Bon Iver. Locally, I’m inspired by indigenous artists like; Madosini, Vuyo Katsha, Nozuko Mapoma and of course my own bandmates!

Would you rather miss the end of every movie or miss the punchline of every joke?

The end of every movie for sure – I generally fall asleep within the first 40min of a movie… A joke can at least hold my attention span.

Are you looking forward to Park Acoustics? What are your impressions of it?

It’s my first show in Pretoria and so I’m really keen to show audiences some of the Native Young flavour. I’ve only heard really great things about Park Acoustics and so I’m honored to be a part of this month’s line up.

If you could live anywhere on the planet, where would you choose to go?

I’ve spent a lot of time in Scandinavia recently and so I’d probably pick somewhere like Iceland or Norway – the nature and stark landscape is beautiful (The people are also ridiculously good looking – so that might be swaying my decision)

If you were a ghost, who would you haunt?

I’m already a ghost and I’m haunting you all (the music is just a friendly disguise to reel you in).
