We’re on a roll with the Drop Your Drink Super Interviews this year. Next up is a Pretoria-based duo called, Flint, meet Spark. The duo is made up of Adelle and Josh and we got to talk to them about their beautiful folk music.

DYD: So tell us a bit about Flint, meet Spark. How did you guys meet and what made you decide to make beautiful music together?
Flint, meet Spark.: It involves some stalking, mutual friends, some jokes about starting a band (and then actually starting a band) and playing our first show to a bunch of hippies. That’s how it started. The beautiful music? Eh, we guess it’s the result of that.

DYD: Where do you get inspiration for your songs?
Flint, meet Spark.: From creative people and creative things. Creativity is inspiring to most people.

DYD: What is the best part of being musicians?
Flint, meet Spark.: Being hungry, and then getting free food at gigs. And the music. The music’s pretty sweet.

DYD: You guys were so much fun during the photo shoot. What we really liked was the amount of joy you seemed to carry around during the very hot afternoon. How do you stay joyful and translate that on stage?
Flint, meet Spark.: Firstly, cool comment. Secondly, we don’t thrive much on the negative and rather keep things that really matter in our focus. We don’t pretend to be happy when we’re not, so I guess we’ve been pretty happy so far.

DYD: So let’s say that you could travel anywhere in the world and perform at any music festival. Where would you go and why?
Flint, meet Spark.: Coachella. To catch up on some serious stalking and meet some new homies (Pharrell, Will.I.Am etc.)

DYD: Do you guys have a favourite performance? Where was it and why is it a favourite?
Flint, meet Spark.: Oppi. Contact @texxonfire to find out why.

DYD: And on that note, how was your experience playing live on the Expresso Morning Show – SABC 3?
Flint, meet Spark.: So much fun. The TV industry is so fast paced and professional, so you feel kinda special to be involved some how. We got some great feedback and got to hang with Elana Afrika which is a win.

DYD: What plans do you have for 2014?
Flint, meet Spark.: An EP. Writing some more. Experimenting with new sounds. Having fun. Getting a gig at an old age home.

DYD: Who are some of your favourite international artists and acts? We’ve heard the more obscure they are the better but personally we’re having a thing for Spice Girls again.
Flint, meet Spark.: Alt-J. Ben Howard. Macklemore. And we think you’re onto something with them Spicey Girls. #comeback #sotellmewhatyouwantwhatyoureallyreallywant.
