Would you believe in what you believed in if you were the only person who believed in it?
Well, the reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
RHEST was founded in 2015 in the township of Atteridgeville, Pretoria. Originally conceived as a seasonal downtown soirée, RHEST has now evolved into a multi-disciplinary creative studio. As the basis of creativity lies in keenly observing the world, RHEST profiles and co-creates with individuals shaping South Africa’s sign of the times in order to develop an intrinsic curiosity that fuels our culture of everything by design.
Rhythms, Enunciation & Style?
RHEST is an acronym for Rhythms, Enunciation & Style, which we believe are 3 essential constructs of culture. Inspired by the nuances of the global culture, RHEST designs purpose-driven brands, that share value as well as contribute and advance culture.
With that ethos in mind, 2016 saw RHEST establish a creative book store. It aims to stock world renowned design books from across the world. The goal is to constantly educate designers across the country, as well as play a small part in uplifting the burgeoning South African design scene to a world renowned stature.
We currently stock titles from esteemed publishers including Assouline, Rizolli, Thames and Hudson, Hypebeast, Highsnobiety and Cereal. One of our dreams is seeing a local creative, who’s also a customer of the book store, spearhead a global campaign for a multinational brand, because as Jay Z says, “Usually when you have this much taste you European, that’s the end of that way of thinking, never again.”
