We caught up with South African designer Jessica Mole ahead of the May 2017 launch of her clothing brand ‘JESSICA ANNE’.
What kind of woman do you see wearing your brand and what do you want them to get out of it?
All types of women of different ages. I want women to feel beautiful in my clothes. I want them to know what works with their body type and feel confident in themselves.
Where do you draw your inspiration from when coming up with new designs?
So many places! I love paging through magazines, people watching… Pinterest. I like to go to the beach and just watch the waves crash at the shoreline, that kind of thing feeds my soul.
What kind of items of clothing can we expect to see as part of the JESSICA ANNE brand?
Classic silhouettes like A-line skirts and collared blouses. I like sticking to shapes that I know are flattering.
How would you like to see the brand progressing from here?
I would love to be known as a diverse brand that my customers can trust. Having stores around the world one day. I want the Jessica Anne brand to be an experience, a source of inspiration for young girl bosses like me.
If there was one piece of advice you could give to someone wanting to start their own clothing brand, what would it be?
Know your ‘why’ and stick to it. Once you know that, the difficult things will seem do-able and you’ll always remember why you’re doing what you’re doing… That will keep you in your game.
If you could dress anyone in the world in your designs, who would it be?
Oh my word! That’s such a difficult one. Probably Heidi Klum, her body is insane and I have such huge respect for her (I am a big Project Runway fan). I also love Alexa Chung, she’s got such amazing style and I’m always looking to see what outfit she flaunts next.
So, if you’re looking for a clothing brand which strives to bring you clothes that are not only handmade in South Africa using quality fabric, but which also seek to make women feel good about themselves when they wear them; then look no further than JESSICA ANNE.
