Johannesburg-based label Vulcan Juwish is the latest offering in local street wear.

This unique, ready-to-wear fashion label, started by two brothers, Thapelo and Kopano Maubane, is not your usual street wear label.

Their name combines the Greek word ‘Vulcan’, meaning ‘god of fire’; with the slang word ‘Juwish’, a term mostly used in the townships to describe flamboyant, classy and cool clothing. With a name like that, its only natural that the brand consistently produces fire (lit) garments.

Vulcan Juwish Beauty’s Collection AW/18 artwork print was heavily inspired by a nostalgic photo depicting a mother and daughter, which could be found in almost every household while growing up in the township. Their latest collection combines this evocative print with modern textures which are relevant today. In addition to the image of the mother and daughter, the collection includes images of the infamous Kurt Cobain, mixed with floral aesthetics in order to fully capture the current climate in local streetwear.
