IV4 was one of 243 bands that entered the Converse Get Out Of The Garage competition this year. After three intense days of judging, Catherine Grenfell, Okmalumkoolkat and Darryl Torr announced the Top 10 in September. Voting was then left in the hands of the public, with over 8000 votes cast.
The band includes Ammiel Kelber (guitar and vocals), Marnus Van Der Merwe (drums), Tiishang Ngoasheng (Bass), Van Wyk Brand (guitar and vocals). For the second time in the competition’s four year history, each of the Top 10 bands ventured to Johannesburg, to record at the pop up Converse Rubber Tracks studio in Greenside. This served as a taste of what is to come when they head off to New York and record at the original Converse Rubber Tracks in Brooklyn. Converse Rubber Tracks supports artistic expression by allowing musicians across all genres an opportunity to record for free and retain all the rights to their music.
