I was very indecisive about what to do on New Year’s Eve because for the first time in about 2 years I wasn’t sure if I was going to be heading to !Arcade Empire. I’d like to believe that I suffer from a rare form of people/packed spaces induced claustrophobia and this has frightened me off a little for their big events. So when I saw that the Kalashnikovv Gallery was throwing a party at Studio Studio I thought this might be my way out of drinking wine at home and falling asleep before 22h30.I should just have a moment to gush about Studio Studio. Justin McGee and Chris Saunders started this incredible space and share it with We-Are-Awesome and Nicholas Christowitz. It looks like my version of New York. I spent a lot of time on rooftops and Studio Studio looks like a Brooklyn rooftop that gracefully landed in Johannesburg’s CBD.
Need I remind you that people from Johannesburg are the coolest? We probably have the most eclectic style in South Africa and people aren’t too cool to socialise with people outside their cliques (What up, Cape Town). The evening was great and the cementing moment for me was seeing fireworks go off all around the city. This marked my 2014, with old and new friends.
So I just want to take the time out to say thanks to M.J., from the Kalashnikovv Gallery, Justin and Chris. You guys threw a really good party, sorry about the mess.
