She’s probably taken your latest profile picture, we chatted to Kendra Sinovich a.k.a. Kens With A Lens. Here’s what she had to say:

Hey Kendra, what do you enjoy taking photos of?

I love taking pictures of people and things that we tend to disregard, finding the beauty that not enough have noticed before and capturing it. It’s like I get to emphasise this undiscovered beauty. The drunk kids definitely come in a close second though.

Are you working on anything at the moment?

I’m working on an exciting project with Jason Schutte and Nella Duarte. We’ll hopefully be able to produce this within the next few weeks.

Have any of your favorite movies influenced your style?

Staying awake through a whole movie is not my greatest talent, but I can say that many TV shows have inspired my style.

What made you start taking photos? What drew you to hone in on the hobby?

I’ve always been a bit obsessive about taking pictures but in matric, a friend of mine asked me what my hobbies were and I realised that I honestly didn’t put attention into much outside of my school obligations and since then I began to put a lot more effort and time into it.

Do you draw to anything you may think of as strange when looking for inspiration?

Beyond the typical being art and music, I’d have to say I draw a lot of inspiration from the people I surround myself with. There are just certain people that inspire you to create, you know those people that just seem to perceive the world in an entirely different way. They carry themselves with so much confidence and just ooze infectiousness.

Which photographers have pushed you to do better by your own work?

Charlemagne Olivier has to be one of my biggest role models although I haven’t had the opportunity to meet him. A little closer to home I’d say Henk Steyn, Sachin Aurakeasamy, Tessi Seokolo and Deji Dada have always kept me in absolute awe of their work and the brands they’ve built.

Besides photography, how do you spend your time?

I’m studying architecture so a large portion of it is spent cutting up cardboard but other than that, my mom, my friends and obviously my dogs take main priority in my life.

If you could live anywhere on the planet, where would you choose to go?

McDonald’s for sure.

If you were a ghost, who would you haunt?

All the haters. Nah I’m just kidding, I would definitely haunt the non-believers just to prove a point.
